The conference abstract is a challenging genre. In some disciplines, scholars write abstracts for work they've not yet begun. In other disciplines, abstracts are elaborate mini-papers. But in any discipline, conference abstracts are essential: they convince conference committees to include your work in their programs.
Participate in this workshop and you will learn to:
- Read a Call for Papers strategically
- Scope out a topic that fits a conference
- Pitch a presentation to a specific conference
Please come to this session with a call for papers for a conference that you have attended, plan to attend, or dream of attending. Bonus points will be awarded to students who arrive with an idea of a presentation topic in mind.
This workshop will be led by Dr. Donetta Hines, who has taught Graphos 1-credit courses and convenes a Graphos Peer Writing Group.
The workshop will be held on McGill's downtown campus on Tuesday, October 6, from 2pm to 4pm. Registrants will receive the workshop location in a confirmation email.
