Preparing for an Academic Job Talk: Developing Your Content and Applying Strategies for Pronunciation

This workshop is intended for graduate students and postdocs who are entering the academic job market and whose first language is not English. We will focus specifically on preparing for a brief research talk as part of the interviewing process.  We will address how to prepare for the talk, manage nervousness, and communicate effectively.  Practicing with excerpts from your own text and other samples, you will gain practical tips and strategies on how to manage the speed, clarity, and pronunciation of your research talk.

The workshop is developed and co-facilitated by staff from Graphos and from Career Planning Service (CaPS). This partnership means that attendees will benefit from the career advising experience of Lorna MacEachern (CaPS) as well as the guidance from Susan Jackson (Graphos CESL 651 instructor).

The workshop will be held on McGill's downtown campus on Friday, September 30, from 9am-11:30am.  Registrants will receive the workshop location in a confirmation email.
