Exploration of global policies, politics, industry and institutions and their neo-colonial underpinnings, and their influence on current global health theory, research and practice, with a special focus on the health of Indigenous peoples in Canada and other racialized groups. The environmental and social determinants of health and health inequities, with attention to women and children’s health, communicable and non-communicable disease, and the complexities of disasters and humanitarian crises. This exciting and interactive course aims to give students the opportunity to broaden their understanding and knowledge of global health issues, including global burden of diseases, determinants of health, transition in health and drivers of such transition, challenges in healthcare delivery in resource-limited settings, and the variety of agencies and actors engaged in addressing global health challenges.
