Professionals Grants

The Professionals Grants category is designed for health professionals interested in Maternal and Child Health (MCH). Additionally, all applicants, especially those with community-based and/or participatory research, are strongly encouraged to seek a local partner that can provide expertise and assistance in the proposed research area and site. The local partner should be recognized in the research site and be able and willing to spend time assisting the project team. If applicable, a letter of support from the local partner is required.

Eligibility

  1. The primary applicant must:
    • Be a trained and/or practicing professional in one of the health fields listed here.
    • Be proficient in either French, English or both.
    • Be a citizen and resident of a low and lower-middle income country (LMIC) as classified by the World Bank.
  2. Research site must be an LMIC, preferably the primary applicant’s home country or a naturalized place of residence.
  3. If making a group submission, it is recommended that at least 2 professions/disciplines are represented in the team. It is advised that at least one member of the team is a senior researcher.

 

Requirements

Note: Applications may be completed in English or French [voir les informations sur les bourses en français]. Files should be named using this format: “Applicant’s last name_document type.” Example: “Ofili_Resumé.” Acceptable file types are .doc, .docx, and .pdf. All the documents should be single-spaced, normally margined and have a font size not smaller than 11, with the specified page limits respected. Applications that are 1) incomplete, 2) not meeting the eligibility criteria, and 3) not following the stipulated guidelines will NOT be considered. Lastly, to access the form, applicants must log in to a google account.

Individual submissions

Applicants are required to complete an online form requesting the following information:

  1. Research proposal (maximum 3 pages not including references and appendices). To help guide your submission, the research proposal guidelines are outlined here.

    The following appendices must be included in the proposal:
    • An approximate one-year timeline listing the research steps that need to be accomplished and the estimated duration for each step/activity (e.g., ethics approval, personnel training, participants recruitment and follow-up, data analysis, report and presentation) (maximum 1 page).
    • A tabulated budget breakdown listing and justifying the itemized project expenses of up to CAD$3,000 (e.g., personnel hired, services required, non-reusable and reusable equipment and materials). If you expect or have received support from another funder, please indicate the funds expected/received and the source/funder (maximum 1 page).
    • Note that the proposal, timeline, and budget must be uploaded as a single document on the form.
  1. Resumé of applicant (maximum 2 pages).
  1. Description of significance of applicant’s previous research contributions, career aspirations and explained interest in MCH (maximum 1 page).
  1. Official letter of support from the applicant’s institution/department. This letter should confirm the applicant’s position and ability to execute the project, and show the institution’s/department’s willingness to support the project (maximum 1 page).
  1. Information on the applicant’s unit or department head/director.
  1. If applicable, official letter of support from applicant’s local partner (maximum 1 page).

Group submissions

The proposal can be submitted in teams of 2 to 5 members.

Applicants are required to complete an online form requesting the following information:
