Dr Arnaud Chiolero, MD PhD, is an epidemiologist and public health physician. Initialy trained as a medical doctor (MD) at the University of Lausanne (www.unil.ch) in Switzerland, he obtained an MSc in epidemiology from the Erasmus University Rotterdam (www.nihes.nl) in the Netherlands. With a senior researcher grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and as a fellow of the Canadian Institutes of Health research (CIHR), he obtained a PhD in epidemiology from McGill University in Montreal (www.mcgill.ca). He is a specialist in prevention and public health (board certified). He is Associate Professor in Public Health and Primary Care and Deputy Director of the Institute of Primary Health Care (BIHAM) (www.biham.unibe.ch/) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He leads epidemiological research with a focus on chronic diseases and on health services. He also works as chief-physician (médecin-chef) epidemiologist at the Observatoire valaisan de la santé in Sion (www.ovs.ch), Switzerland, where he oversees the health surveillance activities. He is Adjunct Professor in the Department of Epidemiology of McGill University (www.mcgill.ca/epi-biostat-occh/) where he teaches about public health surveillance.
