Expert Interviews

While the Türkiye Earthquake Memory Project focuses on the country’s remembrance of its disastrous earthquakes, the subject contains many complex layers of information, such as geological science, civil engineering, appoach to disaster risk management, post-disaster reconstruction, preservation of cultural heritage, and more. Interviews with different scholars have been conducted to provide context to the topic, and a more holistic view of the material. 

 

Dr. Osman Balaban 

Dr. Osman Balaban is a professor of Urban Planning at the Middle East Technical University. His research deals with climate change adaptation, urban resilience, post-disaster recovery planning and social vulnerability analysis. The interview was conducted on July 5, 2024. 

 

Dr. Yazhou (Tim) Xie 

Dr. Xie is an assistant professor at McGill's department of Civil Engineering. His expertise lies in the broad areas of resilience, infrastructure systems, and natural hazards. The interview was conducted on June 12, 2024.
