The Computational and Data Systems Initiative (CDSI) is an interdisciplinary research center focused on McGill projects that involve computing and data. The Initiative is particularly interested in research that involves AI and data science. The CDSI, associated with the Faculty of Science, brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines to collaborate on convergent research themes.
The CDSI also offers a number of computation and data science resources useful for Digital Humanities students. They regularly offer workshops to the McGill community in data science with programming languages, machine learning and natural language processing, and advanced statistical methods, among others. There are two camps planned for Summer 2023: Fundamentals of Machine Learning in Python, and the R & Math Summer Camp.
Digital Humanities students may also be interested in the CDSI’s Data Science Solutions Hub (DaS2H), which offers advice on research projects involving applied statistics, computing methodologies, and data analytics. Those interested in DaS2H’s support can schedule a consultation to discuss support solutions for their project. Depending on the scope of the project, DaS2H may recommend the CDSI’s involvement as ongoing collaborators.
During the academic year, the CDSI holds a regular speaker series highlighting researchers and topics relevant to computing and data science.
