Centre for Innovative Medicine (CIM)

The research will be carried out at the  Centre for Innovative Medicine (CIM) located in the Research Institute at the Glen Site Hospital in Montreal and at the Mary Emily Clinical Nutrition Research Unit (MECNRU) located at the Macdonald Campus of McGill University in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.  The demographics will be representative of a multiethnic Canadian metropolitan population.

RI-MUHCThe RI‐MUHC has a worldwide reputation in the field of biomedical sciences and health care. It is located close to the Montreal city centre and is accessible by car and public transportation. It supports over 460 researchers and over 1,200 graduate and post‐doctoral students and fellows. Our studies involving human participants will take place at the CIM, a dedicated clinical research facility conveniently located within the hospital and comprising 8 overnight beds (one fully equipped for the clamp experiments), dedicated medical imaging platform (CT scan, DEXA, X‐ray, MRI, PET‐CT), interview, surgical and procedure rooms, and a sample analysis laboratory. Processing and analyses of participant samples will use facilities in the labs and platforms of the RI‐MUHC Centre for Translational Biology. Drs Burgos, Marliss, Tsoukas, Chevalier and their team will have access to the CIM rooms for the human studies. They have a designated 800 square foot module which is equipped to process clinical samples and perform physiological and molecular biology experiments. They also share common‐access facilities with other investigators equipped with clinical centrifuges, ‐80°C freezers and nitrogen tanks for cryostorage.  This location will be used for all in-patient visits (visits 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 of the current study).

Mary Emily Clinical Nutrition Research Unit (MECNRU)

MECNRU
The MECNRU is located in the town of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue on the western tip of Île de Montréal, about 35 km west of Montreal city centre. It has facilities for feeding trials in humans: a kitchen and sitting area; an interview room obtaining consent and administration of questionnaires; and a research/clinical assessment room dedicated to procedures including blood sampling and physical examinations. Highly skilled staff, nurses and research technicians work at both locations.  This location will be offered for out-patient visits (visits 4 and 5 of the current study).
