The CRCF purchased $250 of LGBTQ friendly books to donate to The Rainbow Umbrella group which is a non-profit organization that strives to create safe trusting spaces, promoting awareness, acceptance, respect and equality for the LGBTQ Youth of Verdun and the Southwest.
The Rainbow Umbrella students, accompanied by a facilitator will go into elementary school classrooms/libraries and read stories to children from a selection of LGBTQ positive children’s books. The purpose of these stories is to open up dialogue and explain LGBTQ topics they may have seen on tv or heard about from their peers. The books are carefully selected that explain that families are different today, and tell positive stories about two daddies, two mommies, different families, not being born in the right body, etc.
