Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) – Innovation Fund (IF) 2027 Workshop
McGill Workshop for the Upcoming Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) – Innovation Fund (IF) 2027:
Understanding the Requirements of Streams 1 & 2 versus Stream 3
The CFI IF provides funding to support the full spectrum of research activities from fundamental and applied research to technology development by investing in large-scale infrastructure that enables world-class research and innovation.
The IF 2027 competition is expected to include three streams as in the IF 2025:
- Stream 1: Open
- Stream 2: Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts (SSHA)
- Stream 3: Core Facilities
The competition is anticipated to launch in early 2026, with full proposals due in early winter 2027.
To support early preparation and proposal development, the Office of the Vice-President (Research and Innovation) (OVPRI) will host an in-person, interactive workshop highlighting the distinctions between the three streams and their respective requirements.
Participation will be limited to 15 attendees per session, and registration by email to magdalena.maslowska [at] mcgill.ca (Magdalena Maslowska) will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Researchers are encouraged to register early to reserve a spot.
Researchers intending to apply to the IF 2027 competition must submit by March 1, 2026, a Research Proposal Outline package for the internal review and selection process. Researchers participating in an IF proposal led by another institution that requests a contribution from McGill’s CFI envelope are also required to submit the package.
