Current newspapers can now be found on new display shelves located on the main floor of the McLennan Library Building, Humanities and Social Sciences Library. They are located in a room facing McTavish Street, around the corner from the current print periodicals. If you have any questions about accessing our print or online collections, please feel free to consult library staff.
The Redpath section of the Humanities and Social Sciences Library will be open for study 24 hours a day, 7 days a week starting at 1:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 7, and ending at 8:00 a.m., Friday, December 22. A valid McGill ID card is required for access to the Library after 00:45 a.m. The Redpath main floor, as well as the Info Café and the cafeteria, will remain open overnight during this perio
Our Book Returns Room in the Humanities & Social Sciences Library has reopened for service. We remodelled the room to improve our services for you. Thanks for your patience during this project.
On Saturday, October 21, an event has been scheduled for visiting McGill alumni during Homecoming weekend. The computer and study area (former Reference area) on Level 1 (main floor) of the McLennan Library Building will not be accessible from 1 pm to 4 pm. Additional computers and group and individual study areas are available elsewhere in the McLennan and Redpath buildings, as well as in other branch libraries on campus. Books from the Reference collection will be retrieved for users by library staff during this period. Please consult with staff at the Information Desk for details. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
The returns chutes in the McLennan Lobby will be under renovation from October 16 to 23. We will temporarily relocate the returns chute to the window on the EDRS side of the Loans Desk in the Redpath Library Building (near the Redpath entrance). We thank you for your patience as we strive to improve our service delivery.
All carpeting on level 1 (main) of the Redpath wing of the Humanities and Social Sciences Library will be replaced starting Monday, Sept. 25, and ending Thursday, Sept. 28. The study area opposite the Loans and Reserves Desk will be completely closed on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 25-26. The Loans and Reserves Desk, as well as other services on level 1 of Redpath, will be accessible during this period. For more information, please call the Information Desk at 514-398-4734.

Lending & Access Services is now providing headphones at the Loans desk in the Humanities and Social Sciences Library. You can use them to listen to CDs or DVDs on the computers in the library. Our Dell computers have DVD players on them, so they can be used as viewing stations. The loan period is 2 days. We are also making laptop locks available. These allow you to attach the lock to your laptop
If you're interested in organizing your references and creating hassle-free formatted bibliographies, the Humanities and Social Sciences Library is offering an EndNote session on Tuesday, August 15, at 12:30 pm. No registration is required. Please note that this software is available for downloading to your own computer for free: come to a Library session to find out how.
The main floor reference area of the Humanities and Social Sciences Library will not be accessible from Thursday, August 10, until early September. The Reference Collection will remain accessible. Other computers and study spaces are available in the complex. Please feel free to ask Library staff for details.
There are temporary problems with access to the Women Writers Online website. Work is being carried out on their server and our links from the Library Catalogue may not connect. We are trying to determine how long this will last. In the meantime, please click on "More information" to access the database.
