On August 18, 2015, Drs. Bertrand Lebouché and Charo Rodriguez were awarded a grant totaling 160,000.00 CAD for their application to the Mitacs-Accelerate Internship Program (72,000 from the partner organization, Merck Inc, and 88,000 from Mitacs). Mitacs is a national, not-for-profit organization that supports research-based innovation, in part, through a research internship program designed to increase deployment of highly educated graduates into the private sector.

The Isaac Tannenbaum Annual Research Day on May 29 brought together essentially all of our residents from our six Family Medicine Units and our three satellites sites. The resident oral presentations were fantastic with many were excellent examples of practice-based research pointing to how practice can be improved by research. Two members of the McGill Family Medicine Student Interest Group (FAMSIG), Annick Gauthier and Hiromi Tissera, were involved in producing a joint paper with other Quebec Family Medicine Interest Groups (FMIGs) on Bill 20. FAMSIG is a group of McGill Medical Students interested in family medicine, whose mission is to promote medical student exposure to family medicine.

On April 26, in Vancouver, during the Presidential Address Awards Ceremony at the Canadian Conference in Medical Education (CCME), Dr Grad has received his AFMC John Ruedy Award for innovation in medical Education. The award is given to an individual or group who has developed innovative print materials, electronic learning aids or other teaching aids.

Dr. David Eidelman, Dean of Medicine at McGill University and Chairman of the conference of Deans of the four Faculties of Medicine in Quebec, was quoted this week in the Journal de Montréal. The article briefly discussed the increasing popularity of family medicine, which for the first time filled 424 residency positions, compared to 425 in other specialities.
