Rufus and Martha Wainwright to perform for the Cedars Cancer Heroes Night with Lance Armstrong and Friends at the newly-built Casino de Mont-Tremblant!

Montreal’s entertainment community is coming together for a lively and memorable evening of music and five-star dining to benefit the Cedars Cancer Institute.  The Cedars Cancer Heroes Night with Lance Armstrong and Friends will be a heartfelt celebration of cancer survivors that have forever changed cancer care in Montreal.

Don’t bring a tie - you won’t need it!  It’s a causal affair, and the kind of event which will move you and make you feel good for having contributed and been there.

On September 11, Grammy-nominated Rufus Wainwright, his sister Martha Wainwright, their mother Kate McGarrigle, Marie-Élaine Thibert, new hit singing sensation Naturally 7 and others will perform in front of hundreds of guests at the stunning Casino de Mont-Tremblant.   The show will be hosted by long-time CTV anchor Mutsumi Takahashi and entertainment journalist Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, along with Caroline Rhea, Louis Bertrand and Phil Liggett.

This memorable evening will celebrate the accomplishments of heroic cancer survivors Sarah Cook, Saku Koivu, Jean Béliveau, Kate McGarrigle, and Alexia Calvillo with her husband Anthony.  Lance Armstrong will top the evening off with a speech on the global fight against cancer.

“This promises to be a once in a lifetime event, and we are indeed grateful that so many artists, athletes and community leaders have agreed to help us in the fight against cancer,” explained Louise Courey Nadeau, co-president of the Tour de Lance.

“The funds raised will be used to enhance patient care and ensure the MUHC continues to be a centre of excellence and a source of pride for all Quebecers, “added Dr. Arthur T. Porter, Director General and CEO of the MUHC.

Guests will enjoy cocktails on the beautiful second floor of the new Casino de Mont-Tremblant and then be tantalized by Executive chefs Jean-Pierre Curtat and Denis Girard of the Nuance and Baccara restaurants who will collaborate to prepare an unforgettable dining experience worthy of their CAA-AAA Five Diamond status.

“My family life like many of the presenters being honoured has benefitted from the outstanding care provided by the women and men of Cedars and the MUHC,” stated Rufus Wainwright.  “We are delighted to have the chance to honour their compassion and their professionalism and hope the event will be a sell-out.”

Proceeds will help the Cedars Cancer Institute purchase state-of-the-art tools and equipment to facilitate diagnosis and treatment for cancer patients at the McGill University Health Centre: the da Vinci Surgical Robotic System, Digital Mammography, and the Intra-Operative MRI. This fundraising effort is part of the $300 million Best Care for Life Campaign to support the $2.2 billion redevelopment project on the Lachine, Mountain and Glen campuses, including a new $155 million Comprehensive Cancer Centre.

Media are invited to interview any of the artists performing ahead of what is shaping to be an unforgettable evening of entertainment by Montrealers, for Montrealers who are seeking to change cancer care forever.
