Bingo night to highlight tribute to grads in hoops and volleyball

Published: 4 February 2010

MONTREAL - The McGill University basketball and volleyball teams will both be honouring their graduating players when they host their final regular-season regular-season home games this weekend.

Both volleyball squads will be paying tribute to their seniors before each game of their doubleheader on Friday. In basketball, the Martlets and Redmen will honour their seniors in separate ceremonies between games of Saturday's doubleheader against the UQAM Citadins.

On both nights, the women's event is scheduled for 6 p.m., followed by the men's affair at 8 p.m.

In recognition of the graduating athletes, McGill Athletics & Recreation will be holding a "Bingo Seniors Night" during the basketball twin-bill.

Bingo cards consisting of in-game statistical accomplishments will be handed out to all McGill students and prizes will be awarded for completing all four corners of the card (free Domino's pizza & Coke products), completing a line on the card (Redbird Sports Shop gift certificate) and for anyone who registers a complete blackout on their card, they will receive a cash prize of $250.

The lone graduating veteran for the volleyball Martlets is Jennifer Thomson, a power-hitter from Rosemere, Que. On the men's side, those expected to graduate include Thomas Fabian of Toronto, Matthew Mosseler of Fredericton and Edward O'Dwyer of Calgary.

In basketball, honorees on the Martlets will be Nathifa Weekes of Brossard, Que., Stephanie Bergeron of Montreal and Caroline Hebert of Repentigny, Que.

Those playing their final regular-season home game for the Redmen hoops squad include team captain Pawel Herra of Kingston, Ont., Matt Thornhill of Ile-Bizard, Que., and Jesse Woods of Shawano, Wisconsin.
