Brandi Brown of Pomona, Calif., scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Youngstown State Penguins outgunned McGill 71-54 in women's basketball before 150 at Love Competition Hall, Friday. It marked the earliest season opener ever for the undermanned Martlets, the defending Quebec conference champions who are in their 91st season and only dressed 10 players.
The college basketball season gets an early start this weekend, when McGill plays host to a number of NCAA teams. In women's hoops, the Martlets will open their 91st season by hosting Youngstown State on Friday. In men's action, the Redmen open their 112th campaign by hosting Northeastern on Sunday and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) Runnin' Rebels on Tuesday.
