With rapid and chaotic urbanization in developing countries, one billion people around the globe live in slums. This year's distinguished speaker is Tanzania's Anna Tibaijuka, executive director, United Nations Human Settlement Program (UN-HABITAT). The Program promotes socially and environmentally sustainable cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. Hailed by the New York Times for her "unflinching honesty," she was recently elected to a second term as head of UN-HABITAT.
