NWIS Training in Grenada

Grenada, April 18-20, 2011

Two years after the successful launch of its own National Water Information System (NWIS) in January 2009 through the CARIWIN project, Grenada now takes on the role of trainer. This three-day hands-on training event, held with financial support from the United Nation's Global Environment Facility Integrated Watersheds and Coastal Areas Management Project, allowed personnel employed by the Government of Grenada to share its significant experience with other countries in the Caribbean region which are in the early phases of developing their own National Water Information Systems. Participants at the event represented the countries of St. Lucia, Antigua, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Participant comments from the event include the following:

  • "The experience gained during the workshop advanced my knowledge of the WIS and will speed up the process of implementation of the system in my country."
  • "The knowledge and experienced gained should improve my ability to perform data storage, retrieval and mapping functions."
