2010 Events

Summary

CARIWIN kickstarted its fourth year with a Regional Seminar held in Georgetown, Guyana, on January 14 and 15, 2010. Discussions focused on Community Water Strategies and the potential of the Caribbean Drought and Precipitation Monitoring Network (CDPMN) for Guyana specifically. Another main activity in 2010 is the delivery of a Post Graduate Water Resource Management Certificate in collaboration with the University of Guyana.

The CARIWIN Regional Seminar was held in Georgetown, Guyana, on January 14-15, 2010. Attendance at the event included representatives from regional organizations; national partners from Grenada, Guyana and Jamaica; international guest speakers; as well as partners from the CIMH and McGill University.

Soil and Water Assessment Tool: Computer modelling workshop

A 4-day SWAT training workshop was held from May 3-7, 2010 at McGill University and was attended by a CIMH hydrologist.

Post Graduate Certificate in Water Resource Management

University of Guyana, Georgetown, Guyana

January 2010

Guyana's Ministry of Agriculture signed an MoU with McGill University and the University of Guyana that will allow up to 24 engineers to pursue a Post Graduate Certificate in Water Resource Management. The certificate is delivered jointly by professors and researchers of both universities, and is divided into three modules: Hydrology and Water Resources Management; Irrigation and Drainage; and Geotechnical Investigations.
