Past Activities

Some of our most notable activities have included:

Black Histories, Black Futures The organization of the Black Histories, Black Futures Conference, which aimed to strengthen growing relationships with Montreal’s Black communities by creating a forum for dialogue and strategy.
CAPDHHE The co-organization with Université de Montréal and Vanier College of the 2010 edition of the Annual Canadian Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education (CAPDHHE) Conference held in Montreal.
LEAD Diversity Program The development of the LEAD Diversity Program – a non- academic program where students are sensitized to issues of equity and diversity, develop leadership and project management skills, and gain practical career experience.
Burst Your Bubble! The Community in Diversity: “Burst Your Bubble” campaign involving the organization of visits to various community organizations around Montreal to give McGill’s students and staff a rare opportunity to explore the ethno-and socio-cultural richness of the city and further understand the importance of community work. Visits are followed by a Community Connections networking dinner.
My Neighbour's Faith A year-long collaboration with McGill's Chaplaincy Services that promotes understanding and dialogue about various religious traditions. Students visit a house of worship in the community, experience the practice of those religions and share a meal with the host community.
Cultivate Respect The development of the “Cultivate Respect” awareness campaigns, aimed to encourage communication and effectively educate McGill faculty, staff, and students in order to assist them in forging healthy, respectful interactions.
Equity Research and Community Outreach Calendars The development of the SEDE Equity and Research Calendars and related Calendar Launch events that bring students, researchers, and staff together for the collective goal of celebrating equity and human rights research and arts.
Collage: Expressions of Diversity The SEDE Office has held art and writing contests called 'Collage: Expressions of Diversity', where members of the community, including students, staff and faculty, are invited to participate.
Other Activities Theatrical Performances, Film Screenings, Book Launches, Presentations, Public Debates, etc.
