As a community center, the development of the building aims to serve the community and its people. The community provides services for education and health, create a beneficial environment for those wondering around downtown and have nowhere to go. The goal of my intervention is to present the layers in culture, history and architectures to its visitor while drawing connections between those layers in order to educate people about those layers, and create a sense a belong for visitors with diverse background.
In response to the analysis, the project is imagined as a box separated under strain from St Catherine to de Maisonneuve streets across the site. The landscaped courtyard in between the two buildings not only acts as a connection between the them, but also as a space of negotiation between all structures inside the block as they surround the courtyard. Transparency of the street and interior facades allows
visibility from each street to the courtyard, creates connections between the life of the street and the life inside the block.
