Drawing upon the inter-disciplinary strengths of our team, this research utilizes a mixed methodology. We will conduct a multi-phase multi-method sequential design, with each phase informing each other. We have chosen to use both qualitative and quantitative methods, to capture both meaning/depth and breadth, respectively.
To create a systematic portrait of needs, mental health, and well-being, qualitative and quantitative methods will be implemented in a parallel fashion. We will collect qualitative data through interviews and focus group discussions with Syrian refugee young adults and adult education practitioners in early 2019 in Quebec.
Data on pertinent sociodemographic information, psychological distress, well-being (emotional psychological and social) and four single-item indicators of school success, including attachment, attendance, impairment owing to distress and/or mental health difficulties, and future orientation will be collected through an online survey.
The second phase of the research will include workshops for adult education practitioners in 2020 and 2021.
