The Rosenblatt Laboratory: The Hess B. and Diane Finestone Laboratory in Memory of Jacob and Jenny Finestone
The Rosenblatt Laboratory, also known as the Hess B. and Diane Finestone Laboratory in Memory of Jacob and Jenny Finestone, located at the MUHC Research Institute, continues its long history of working with patients with inborn errors in vitamin B12 metabolism. Drs. Rosenblatt and Watkins identified many of the genes in the pathway of vitamin B12. This has allowed the diagnosis of patients with inherited disorders of this important vitamin The laboratory is partially funded by an endowment to McGill University established in 1988 by Mr. Hess B. Finestone with the goal of making advancements in the field of medical genetics.
What we do
We study inherited disorders of vitamin B12 metabolism both in our laboratory and in collaborations with other researchers around the world. This includes work on vitamin B12 metabolism both in cultured fibroblasts from patients and in cancer cell lines, it role in developmental defects in non-human model systems, and on potential treatments for these diseases. We provide diagnostic services for suspected patients on a research basis.
