The Reader Lab

We study the causes and consequences of innovation and social learning in animals and humans.

In particular, we have been looking at:

  • the neuro-cognitive processes underlying the creation and acquisition of novel behaviour patterns
  • the diffusion dynamics of acquired information
  • the relationship between asocial and social learning
  • the causes of individual, population and species-level variation in innovation and social learning propensities
  • the role of innovation and social learning in brain evolution
  • the evolutionary consequences of behavioural flexibility and the active role of behaviour in evolution.
