George Browman

GEORGE BROWMAN is Clinical Professor, School of Population and Public Health, University of British Columbia and a practicing medical oncologist at the BC Cancer Agency (BCCA), Vancouver Island Centre.  Dr. Browman chairs the University of British Columbia, BCCA Research Ethics Board and is a member of the Methodological Subcommittee of the Guidelines Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). 

For 7 years he led the Cancer Guidelines Advisory Group for the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, developing pan-Canadian networks and foundational resources for cooperation across Canadian provinces in guideline development and use. Dr. Browman has held both academic and health systems leadership positions at McMaster University, the University of Calgary and for Cancer Care Ontario and the Alberta Cancer Board. 

He is best recognized for his role as Founding Director of Cancer Care Ontario’s Program in Evidence-based Care, an internationally recognized leader in cancer guideline development and implementation; for his research related to clinical and policy decision making around approval of new cancer drugs; and for his contributions to clinical research in head and neck cancer treatment.  In 2000 the National Cancer Institute of Canada awarded him the O. Harold Warwick Prize for career contributions to cancer control in Canada.
