More on the film:

“Once a thriving Palestinian port city, Jaffa has now become an extension of Tel Aviv. It often served as the backdrop for action films set in the Middle East, without showing any actual Palestinians. Aljafari offers a subtle portrait and memoir of a disappearing city that has been changed forever by incessant construction, gentrification and dispossession of its inhabitants.” -IFFR, 2009

Nayrouz Abu Hatoum is an assistant professor in the department of sociology and anthropology at Concordia University. She completed her Ph.D. in Social Anthropology at York University and is one of the founding members of the Insaniyyat - Society of Palestinian Anthropologists which are devoted to promoting anthropological inquiry among Palestinians and about Palestine. Her research explores visual politics in Palestine and the Israeli state, and focuses on people’s place-making and dwelling practices in a context of colonialism and military occupation.
