Abstract: The potential of human genetics to improve treatments of human diseases has driven much research and investment in the field. However, how successful has it really been? Specifically, can QLS students truly hope that their work will be one day translated into better patient care? In this non-technical seminar, we will grade human genetics outcomes using one of the greatest natural experiment of our time: the COVID-19 pandemic. Did genomic perform well? Did genetic predictions translate into successful clinical trials? We will try to answer these questions, and discuss what are the next steps for the field.
