Winter 2025 Supplemental Course Lecturer Posting

The Department of Philosophy is inviting applications for a course lecturer position to teach in Winter 2025. When applying, please include your Cover Letter and Curriculum Vitae and, if applicable, a copy of your Study/Work Permit. A brief course outline is optional.
PHIL 301-001 Philosophical Fundamentals (3 Credits - CAP 15)
An intensive study of basic philosophical skills; reading, writing, analysis, and argumentation.
Tuesday and Thursday 02:35 pm-03:55 pm, January 16, 2025 – April 11, 2025. Location: LEA 808.
Teaching Qualification Requirements:
- Applicants must have completed a PhD degree or be enrolled in a doctoral program in Philosophy;
- Applicants must provide evidence of highly effective teaching ability as a result of having successfully taught or worked as a teaching assistant in a similar course;
- Applicants must have research specialization or competence into some of the major problems of philosophy. This may be demonstrated in one of the following ways: (i) refereed publications and/or conference presentations in the sub-field; (ii) thesis level research on one or more topics in the sub-field; (iii) prior experience successfully teaching this or a closely related course in the sub-field; or (iv) minimally, at least two graduate-level courses on topics in the sub-field.
McGill University is an English-language university where most teaching and research activities are conducted in the English language, thereby requiring English communication both verbally and in writing.
Salary: $11,090 per course ($9,810.38 pro-rated for the period of January 16 to April 11, 2025).

Exigences en matière de qualifications pédagogiques :
- Les candidats doivent avoir obtenu un diplôme de doctorat ou être inscrits à un programme de doctorat en philosophie ;
- Les candidats doivent fournir la preuve d'une capacité d'enseignement très efficace pour avoir enseigné avec succès ou travaillé comme assistant d'enseignement dans un cours similaire ;
- Les candidats doivent avoir une spécialisation ou une compétence en matière de recherche sur certains des principaux problèmes de la philosophie. Cette compétence peut être démontrée de l'une des manières suivantes : (i) des publications revues par un comité de lecture et/ou des présentations à des conférences dans le domaine ; (ii) une recherche au niveau de la thèse sur un ou plusieurs sujets dans le domaine ; (iii) une expérience antérieure réussie de l'enseignement de ce cours ou d'un cours étroitement lié dans le domaine ; ou (iv) au minimum, au moins deux cours de niveau supérieur sur des sujets dans le domaine.
