The Rural Education Program is designed for students (clerkship) and for senior students (senior clerkship).
It is also intended for residents registered in the following programs:
- Anesthesia
- General surgery
- Family medicine
- Internal medicine
- Obstetrics/gynecology
- Pediatrics
- Psychiatry
Length of rotation according to discipline
Students generally carry out one-month rotations
Family Medicine: It is a mandatory rotation. Students can choose to do two months in a rural setting
Pediatrics: This department offers students the possibility of doing a rural rotation
Elective: Students can carry out elective rotations in rural regions in the discipline of their choice.
Residents complete rotations in accordance to their discipline
Family Medicine: 2 consecutive month during their second year of residency.
In basic specialties: at least 3 months of rotations are required
Anesthesia: During their 4th year of residency
General Surgery: During their 4th year of residency
Internal medicine: Throughout the first 3 years of their residency. Rural Rotations are optional during their 4th and 5th year
Obstetrics/gynecology: During their 4th year of residency
Pediatrics: Throughout their entire residency
Psychiatry: During their 4th year of residency and for their mandatory Family medicine rotation during their 1st year of residency
