To mark the end of the academic year, we organise a screening of Claude Barras’ stop-motion masterpiece Ma Vie de Courgette (2016 – 67min). The script, written by Céline Sciamma, tells the story of ‘Courgette’, a young boy who end up in a group home for children after a tragic incident with his mother. As he finds out he is not the only one with an unsettling back story, Courgette forms a group of close friends that bravely help each other navigate the troubled waters of child protection services.

The film will be followed by an interactive discussion for which we have invited child protection specialist and McGill DCL candidate Laurence Ricard. A member of the Quebec Bar, she has practiced in child and youth protection law, health and administrative law, and labour law.

The event is open to all and the film will be screened in its original French version with English subtitles. Popcorn will be served!

See you soon!

Organized in collaboration with the Sciences Po Law School, ‘Eating Popcorn like a Lawyer’ is a seminar series that seeks to establish a continuous dialogue between the fields of law and film. For each session we invite a prominent legal scholar to select, discuss and analyze a thought-provoking film.
