About the IGSF

GSFS Advising

The Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies

The IGSF supports innovative research, teaching, and outreach activities in the interrelated areas of gender, sexuality and feminist studies. Our research activities, student internships, and capstone courses all engage a range of community institutions, organizations, and

research projects. One key dimension of our mission is to produce knowledge that is accessible to the public and in dialogue with local communities. As part of our outreach efforts and the services we provide to the university as a whole, IGSF also commits to developing mentoring, networking and advancement opportunities for students, faculty, and staff from under-represented groups.

At McGill, the undergraduate programs overseen by the IGSF in Gender, Sexuality, Feminist and Social Justice Studies train students in critical, intersectional and transnational approaches, and the IGSF-supported Graduate Option in Gender and Women’s Studies offers cross-disciplinary specialization in gender studies and feminist theories, methods and research. Through community and university partnerships, we host public events, symposia, lectures, and a speaker series on a wide, inclusive range of research and practices. We recognize and reward research pursued by under-represented groups among McGill students and faculty, and through visiting professorships and fellowships, we provide support to visiting scholars from around the world.

The generosity of donors helps us continue to support student internships in gender, sexuality and feminist studies, to fund graduate-student research and support students in the Graduate Option in Gender and Women’s Studies, to fund student awards emphasizing academic excellence and community engagement, host visiting scholars from around the world, and organize public events and workshops featuring leading-edge research and advocacy in the fields of gender, sexuality, feminist and social justice studies.
