Dr. Shannon Mattern on Case Logics: Furnishing a Bureaucratic Implosion

Thursday, May 8, 2025 17:00to18:30

Please register on Eventbrite.

This event will include a lecture by Dr. Shannon Mattern. It will be an audience Q and A.

This talk — which emerged from Shannon’s tenure as a research chair at her embattled country's national library during a time of destruction and disarray — focuses on the bureaus of bureaucracy. It examines the nature and value of bureaucracy in sustaining a democracy, as well as the apparatae that furnish it; the current administration’s fetishization and debasement of that democratic equipment; as well as strategies for “turning the tables” and imagining new administrative equipment for insubordination.

This event is a special pop up event, following after the conclusion of the 7th Season of Disrupting Disruptions: the Feminist and Accessible Publishing and Communications Technologies Speaker and Workshop Series, organized by Dr. Alex Ketchum. Our series was made possible thanks to our sponsors: SSHRC, Digital Citizen Research, the Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies (IGSF), the DIGS Lab, Milieux, Initiative for Indigenous Futures, ReQEF, and more.

There is no fee required to attend this event.
