Tulip tree is in the same family as Magnolia, and like the magnolias, it is not quite fully cold hardy in this zone; it is what could be called a ‘nearly native’ tree, as its native range is just to the south of this region. There is only one other species of tulip-tree, and this is a small tree that is native to China. Tulip-tree has large, yellow-green flowers which superficially resemble tulip flowers. They are commonly planted in the Montréal region, but are not naturalized.
