Dr. Thomas Joseph Workman Burgess was the medical superintendent at the Protestant Hospital for the Insane in Verdun, QC.
He collected plants for many years and exchanged material with various collectors both in Montreal and abroad. He made an expedition to Nova Scotia with Prof. Macoun in 1883 and another afterwards to the shores of Lake Erie. His collections span all of Canada, from the maritimes to the Northwest Territories.
