    Research Interests

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Medicine, Digital Health, Computer science and artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine, Stanford University.

I have recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at McGill university collaborating on GOING-FWD project. My project had two general parts. The first will involve the development and utility evaluation of machine learning methods for the synthesis of cross-sectional and longitudinal health data. These methods will then be deployed to synthesize datasets for the GOING-FWD project. I lead the effort to deploy the validated synthesis tools at the various sites and help them with the data synthesis, and performed the pooling of the synthetic datasets for analysis. The second part involved the exploration of federated analysis methods to enable multiple sites to perform a distributed analysis. I have helped to setup the appropriate infrastructure across multiple institutions.

    Research Interests:

I am and Assistant Prof. at University of British Columbia (2022-). I have a PhD in Nursing Science graduate from the School of Nursing at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA and I was a postdoctoral fellow in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta (2021-2022).

During my Post-doctoral position at the University of Alberta (Faculty of Nursing), I was involved in iCARE and GOING-FWD projects. The overarching aims of this project were to integrate sex and gender dimensions in applied health research, to evaluate their impact on clinical cost-sensitive outcomes and patients reported outcomes related to quality of life in noncommunicable diseases including cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease, chronic kidney disease and neurological disease. My area of research interest is maternal and child health, specifically as it relates to the reproductive health of women; adolescent sexual and reproductive health; chronic disease prevention and management; and sex and gender differences in non-communicable disease outcome. In particular, much of my work entails extensive research to identify the data gaps and opportunities for action in meeting the needs of women and strengthening the evidence base. I am well verged in conducting both qualitative and quantitative research.

    Research Interests

I’m interested in how the social and physical environment interact to impact disease dynamics, particularly how they are shaped by heterogeneity at various scales. In my PhD thesis I explored the role of heterogeneity in epidemic dynamics at the individual, population and metapopulation level through empirical and theoretical using guppies and their ectoparasite Gyrodactylus turnbullias a model system. I have also used the same model system to explore the interaction of host heterogeneity (in the form of size) with the environmental variable of food availability on epidemic outbreaks, and worked on a project assessing of the human health risk of Lyme Disease in a local parks through exploring interaction between the environmental and individual scales in the risk of disease transmission, based on field sampling and public surveys. For GOING-FWD, I’m investigating whether heterogeneity in the form of sex influences disease outcomes, whether they’re modified by psychosocial variables and whether there are scale effects in the form of country-level differences in these influences using large database analysis. I’m specifically looking at overall physical and mental self-reported health in public health surveys, and COVID-19 morbidity and mortality.

    Research Description

I am a PhD Candidate at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Nursing. My research interests are focused on reducing the burden of cardiovascular diseases in South Asian population especially South Asian Canadians. For PhD studies, I am conducting a pilot randomized controlled trial is to examine the feasibility and acceptability of a culturally tailored low-sodium dietary intervention in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure in South Asian men and women who live in the Greater Toronto Area. Secondary objectives of this pilot study include assessing the effect of a low-sodium community-based dietary intervention on knowledge and attitude and self-regulation behaviours.

    Research Description

I am a PhD student at the University of Toronto in the Faculty of Nursing. My experience as a nurse working in rural/remote First Nation communities, as well as coming from a First Nations family who has been impacted by diabetes and its complications, has helped me to understand the significant influence diabetes has on the individual, family, and community. During my PhD studies, I plan on examining the effects of how sex, gender and culture interacts and influences self-management practices of Indigenous people living with type 2 diabetes with the goal of improving diabetes care and reducing diabetes-related complications.
