Alayne Adams

Dr. Alayne Adams is an Associate Professor and Global Health Director in the Department of Family Medicine. An applied social scientist, her research focuses on innovative strategies to address the social and structural determinants of health equity and access to primary healthcare in both local and global contexts. She has led numerous interdisciplinary projects spanning the fields of social science, health systems, and implementation science, utilizing qualitative, mixed, participatory and geospatial methodologies. Dr. Adams has a particular interest in community-engaged service delivery innovations and holistic primary care models that integrate health and social services with an emphasis on co-design and equity-deserving populations. Her current research includes community-based approaches to social prescribing in primary care, non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention, integrated health and social care, migrant health, and integrated nutrition and gender-transformative rural health programs. These projects span local initiatives in Montreal and international collaborations in Kenya, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Australia, Ghana, and Nigeria. A passionate educator, Dr. Adams brings decades of experience in developing innovative academic programs in population and global health. Her accomplishments include co-founding the flagship Master of Public Health (MPH) program at the BRAC School of Public Health in Bangladesh and its Centre for Urban Equity and Health, designing the MSc Concentration in Global Health in Family Medicine, and leading the development of the undergraduate Faculty Program in Population and Global Health, which she now co-directs. In recognition of her contributions to advancing equity and innovation in global health education, research, and practice, she was recently awarded the Vic Neufeld Global Health Mentorship Award (2024) and the Jonathan Campbell Meakins and Family Fellowship for Medical Education (2025) to advance curriculum development in global primary health care delivery. In Bangladesh, she holds adjunct professor and scientist positions at the BRAC School of Public Health and the icddr,b (an international health research institute), respectively.
