2017/18 Events and Activities

Retreat 2018

Every year, the First Peoples' House, along with Indigenous Acces McGill, offers an Indigenous students and staff retreat at the Gault Nature Reserve located in Mont Sainte-Hilaire, Quebec.

Soup and Bannock Wednesday

Weekly complimentary soup and bannock lunches continue to be provided at the First Peoples' House. An essential activity in building a sense of community at the House, these lunches welcome students and friends to share their favourite recipes and participate in cooking.

Wednesday Activities Nights: Manitobah Mukluks, Beading Workshops, and Traditional Mens' Drumming "Medicine Bear"

The First Peoples' House buzzes on Wednesday nights, and has become a very popular evening for several activities.

The First Peoples' House hosted Manitobah Mukluk sessions with Marion Snow, where students made moccasins and beaded fringed baseball hats in the Fall.

Beading Workshops continued in the winter, with Thomasina Phillips, an Indigenous colleague from counselling leading the sessions. Thomasina also led Pow Wow dancing.

Medicine Bear, our traditional Mens' drumming group, continues to meet while beading sessions took place upstairs. Medicine Bear performed at several events across the city this year, and will continue engaging the community in years to come.

Exam Care Packages

The First Peoples' House was able to offer exam care packages during the winter and fall exam periods.

Federal Government Career and Networking Trip in Ottawa

The First Peoples' House sent students on the Ottawa Career and Networking Trip held in collaboration with Alumni, CaPS, SSMU, and PGSS. Our students had the opportunity to meet McGill First Peoples' House alumni at a meet and a greet.
