McGill energy is pleased to announce the launch of the 2026 Award for Competitions and Outreach, a $3,000 award supporting undergraduate students who advance energy-related innovation and dialogue through competitions and outreach activities.

The award supports two types of initiatives:

Competitions – Funding for undergraduate teams participating in technical or design competitions, (ex: Formula Electric, Chem-E-Car), where the project involves producing or storing energy, improving energy efficiency, or optimizing energy use.

Outreach – Activities that promote discussion and engagement on energy issues, including case competitions, debates, and other student-led initiatives.

Examples of energy related activities:

  • Producing or generating energy
  • Using, converting or storing energy
  • Taking measures to optimize energy use
  • Outreach and public engagement about energy, energy policy or energy research

 

Eligibility criteria:

  • McGill University undergraduate student
  • Competition or outreach activity needs to take place in the 2026 academic year.
  • Funding can not be used for personal research projects or travel to conferences.

To apply:

  • Complete this form by 10:00 am on April 2, 2026
  • You will need to provide a short description (less than 100 words) that includes the following information:
    • The competition or outreach activity that requires funding and how it relates to energy.
    • How you will use the funds
    • Your team (number of members, how long you’ve been working together, etc.)

Requirements:

  • Display the McGill energy logo on the group's website, post about the funding on the group’s social media accounts and show the logo and mention McGill energy during the event.
  • Share the group’s logo with McGill energy so it can be used on the McGill energy website and social media accounts.
  • Complete a form about how the funding helped your group.

The McGill Centre for Innovation in Storage and Conversion of Energy (McISCE) is offering awards of $3,000 each for undergraduate groups entering competitions or engaging in outreach activities related to energy.

 

Examples of energy related activities:

  • Producing or generating energy
  • Using, converting or storing energy
  • Taking measures to optimize energy use
  • Outreach and public engagement about energy, energy policy or energy research

The deadline to apply for this award is February 24, 2025.

  • Competition or outreach activity needs to take place in the 2025 academic year.
  • Funding can’t be used for personal research projects or travel to conferences.

Requirements

Winners will need to:

Funding

Groups can receive funding in one of two ways: McISCE can transfer the funds directly to the group, or McISCE can pay for goods and services on the group's behalf.


McISCE Award for Competitions and Outreach 2023

The McGill Centre for Innovation in Storage and Conversion of Energy (McISCE) is offering awards up to $2,500 for undergraduate students or groups entering competitions or engaging in outreach activities related to energy.

The deadline to apply for this award is November 20, 2023.

  • Competition or outreach activity needs to take place in the 2023-2024 academic year.

To apply:

  • Complete this form before November 20, 2023.
  • You will need to provide a short description (less than 100 words) of:
    • the competition or outreach activity that requires funding and how it relates to energy,
    • how you would use the funds,
    • your team (number of members, how long you’ve been working together, etc.)

 

Winners will need to:
