Congratulations to Dr. Lorraine Lau who has been selected as the new Trauma Fellowship Director, starting July 1.
As Trauma Fellowship Director, Lorraine will be responsible for the overall administration of the Trauma Fellowship program, including the creation and maintenance of a learning environment that allows the fellows to thrive, results in a superior educational experience, and drives the success of the program. The Trauma Fellowship accepts up to 4 fellows per year. The Trauma Fellowship Director reports directly to the Program Director of the FRCP Emergency Medicine program.
As the current MUHC ED Trauma Co-Director, Lorraine brings knowledge about the administration and operations of the Trauma Program to this position. And, as a contributor to the ED Trauma Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process she has valuable insights into the strengths of the program and opportunities for improvement. With a specialization in geriatric emergency medicine and trauma, coupled with a pursuit of a Master of Education in Health Professions (MEHP), she has a strong foundation in clinical practice, communication and leadership skills, and in educational theory.
Lorraine succeeds Joe Nemeth in this position. The DEM would like to acknowledge Joe for his commitment and dedication to the Trauma Fellowship program. His efforts to build and expand the Trauma Fellowship, with the contributions and support of the ED TTL group, has resulted in an internationally recognized program. Joe remains the Director of the General Emergency Medicine Fellowship and the Resuscitation Fellowship.
