It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Dr. Lars Grant to thenewly created position of Associate Chair, Research in the McGill Department ofEmergency Medicine, effective January 1, 2021.
In the role of Associate Chair, Dr. Grant will focus on building the departmental research base and increasing overall departmental research funding. Dr. Grant will work in close collaboration with the McGill sites to promote excellence in research.
Dr. Grant completed a PhD in theoretical physics at Harvard University in 2008before embarking on a career in medicine. He subsequently obtained his medical degree from McGill University in 2011, completed his residency and certification in Emergency Medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital in 2014.
Dr. Grant is passionate about Research and one of his stated goals is to foster collaboration with McGill and partner institutions as well as with external stakeholders to optimize delivery of research programs and initiatives across all sites. His primary research focus is in the development, deployment and assessment of artificial intelligence tools in the emergency department. Most recently, he successfully established a research program at the Lady Davis Institute and in the JGH department of emergency medicine for which he obtained $250,000 in funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. His presence on the national scene will help to facilitate the exposure of the Department of Emergency Medicine’s current and future contributions to the field.
