2025 McGill-FIAM Asset Management Hackathon pushes students to build AI-powered portfolio
Large language models are changing the way we do business - or at least that’s what the companies that make AI tools will tell you. In practice, many companies know that AI tools are very powerful but are still figuring out how best to use them. This year's McGill-FIAM Asset Management Hackathon competition asked business students to put large language models to the test and devise a bottom-up approach to building a portfolio powered by AI. Organized by Associate Professor of Finance Ruslan Goyenko, the 2025 competition, in its second, was held at Espace CPDQ in Place Ville Marie on November 5 and 6.
The Fast Lane Quant team from HEC Montreal and UQAM won the competition, with Zeept of ETS Montreal, Douglas College, McGill and Université de Montreal taking second place, the Going Concern from McGill in third, Reverse Algo of McGill in fourth, and the Quantum Logic Collective of McGill in fifth.
