Volunteers are an essential part of the team at CPE McGill. Together with the guidance of the staff, they assist us in providing a happy, healthy and stimulating environment for the children.
CPE McGill offers volunteers the opportunity to:
- Gain experience in a child care setting.

- Become familiar with Quebec and Canadian culture.

Philosophy
The Centre philosophy and mission are the foundation for all decision making and policy setting of the organization. It is for this reason that the philosophy is referred to here:
The philosophy of the McGill Childcare Centre is based on the belief that children learn through hands-on, age-appropriate activities which enhance their creativity and sense of discovery. Children learn about the world around them as they explore their surroundings. Through an individualized approach within a group setting, the staff strives to provide the children with a warm, secure and consistent environment. The open-door policy and emphasis on the “team approach” to childcare makes parental participation fundamental. Together, the staff, parents and volunteers help to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for the children in our care. Exposure to the multicultural facets of Canadian life is encouraged. The Childcare Centre is fortunate to serve a community that reflects the diversity of the McGill University population, which in turn, reflects the rich cultural life of Montreal.
Requirements
Everyone – regardless of age (16+), sex, race or religion – is encouraged to contact us about volunteer opportunities.
Some prior experience working with young children is required. Volunteers are asked to commit to one two-hour shift per week for a minimum of three months, scheduled anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. or between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
