Genetec Tech Talk : Authenticate like a pro

Genetec has thousands of different customers using dozens of different products. What is the best approach to authenticate and authorize all those users?

In this talk, Gabriel will present an overview of the Genetec approach to authentication and authorization. We will discuss the common pitfalls of username-password authentication and describe some fundamentals of OpenID Connect and OAuth2, which allow Genetec customers to use their existing employee accounts to login to Genetec products. You will learn about claims, access tokens and grant types, as well as how to design authorization for an API.

About the speaker, Gabriel Bourgault:

Gabriel is a software development team leader at Genetec, currently working on the Genetec login platform. He graduated in software engineering in 2019, and has since then been involved in various projects and initiatives at Genetec. His main interests aside from coding are product development, team effectiveness development and inter-team collaboration. In his spare time, he maintains a few open-source projects and spends some time outdoors.
