Soccer women sink Pats, clinch third place

MONTREAL - Alexandra Morin-Boucher, a senior striker from Montreal, scored with 21 minutes remaining to lead the McGill University women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout over UQTR at Molson Stadium, Sunday.

The result clinched third place in the Quebec conference for McGill, which improved to 7-3-2 with two games remaining before playoffs.

Goalkeeper Victoria Muccilli was credited with three saves to earn her third shutout in six starts. The 5-foot-9 sophomore from Mississauga, Ont., improved her record to 6-0 on the season and has only been beaten once on 16 shots faced thus far.

Veteran 'keeper Stephanie Rousseau of Trois-Rivieres, Que., made nine saves in a losing cause for the Pats, who dropped to 4-5-3 and remained tied with Laval for fourth and final playoff berth in the eight-team league.

The Martlets had a 15-7 edge in shots toward the net and a 3-1 margin in corner kicks.

McGill will close out the regular-season schedule with road games at Montreal (Oct. 28) and Concordia (Oct. 30) before playoffs begin.
