McGill lacrosse trio earns CUFLA all-conference honours

MONTREAL - Three members of the McGill men's lacrosse team have earned all-conference status from the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association.

Defender Brendan Farrer and attacker Alex Kruse, both natives of Oakville, Ont., were picked from the Redmen along with faceoff specialist Jake Winn of Falmouth, Maine.

Farrer, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound defensive defenceman, earned all-conference honours for the fourth consecutive season. He played a major role in helping McGill register the second-best goals-against record (7.60 GAA) in the six-team CUFLA East. The 21-year-old economics senior is also a member of the Principal's Student-athlete Honour Roll.

Kruse, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound attackman, led the Redmen in scoring with 30 points, including 12 goals, in 10 games. The 18-year-old education freshman is a product of the Ontario EDGE field lacrosse team. Kruse also played for the Oakville Buzz in the Ontario Lacrosse Association's Jr. B League.

Winn, who was credited with one assist this season, joined the Redmen in 2007 as a sophomore transfer from Lake Forest College, where he was recruited as a hockey player. The 5-foot-6, 170-pound midfielder was named as the most improved player on the Redmen that season and the next year, earned a starting role as a key face-off man. Winn, whose parents are both McGill graduates, is a 21-year-old political science senior.
