INDOOR SOCCER: Di Caprio caps indoor soccer win with hat-trick

SHERBROOKE – Cristina Di Caprio of Laval, Que., netted a hat-trick and Magalie Kolker of Vancouver, B.C., added a pair of goals as McGill trounced Bishop’s 7-1 in women’s indoor soccer action at Sherbrooke, Friday.

Despite the lopsided score, it took almost half an hour for the McGill offence to find the back of the net.

“We expect that kind of output from Kolker as she is one of top forwards in our league but Di Caprio has recently shown that she can be an impact player as well,” said head coach Marc Mounicot. “She has been through numerous injuries over the last two years but has gained a lot of confidence this winter. She has developed tremendously in the last two weeks and we expect her to be a dangerous player for the rest of the season.”

In addition to her three-goal performance, Di Caprio registered an assist and forced a foul in the box, which resulted in a penalty shot goal by teammate Kyrin Dhaliwal, a freshman from Burnaby, B.C.

Claire Hooper of London, Ont., who missed three weeks with a groin injury, rounded out the scoring for McGill.

“The difficulty with (a lopsided) game like that is it’s easy to get complacent and develop bad habits,” added Mounicot. “We had a solid game and could have scored a few more goals but their keeper Kristen Cheng was solid in the first half and made some key saves.”

The Martlets have two games remaining on their schedule before playoffs. The will play Concordia at Saint Eustache in the season finale on Feb. 28, followed by an exhibition game on March 10.
