Dr. Ilana Bank Appointed Lead of Pediatric Simulation Centre

Published: 10 January 2017

Simulation education is a key way to both learn and maintain professional skills. In our continuing effort to improve patient safety and the quality of the the health care we provide, it is now an integral component of how we achieve and maintain excellence.

Our Faculty and our Department has been blessed to be innovators and leaders in the field of medical education which did not exist a generation ago. Unfortunately distance from the focus of simulation activities in the Faculty puts an unnecessary physical and temporal limitation on how we can maximize our use of simulation education.

We have been the beneficiaries of support from both philanthropic and administrative sources to establish a Pediatric Simulation Centre on the MCH site at the Glen. Dr. Farhan Bhanji, Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and an international leader in simulation education, has done a lot of the initial work creating the partnerships and frameworks to make this undertaking a success. Due to Dr. Bhanji's substantial role outside the Faculty at the Royal College, it is now time to pass the baton of local leadership.

I am pleased to inform the Department that as of January 1, 2017, Dr. Ilana Bank, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, will be the lead of our Pediatric Simulation Centre and our liaison to the Faculty's Simulation Centre. Dr. Bank is an outstanding ER clinician and a dedicated, passionate and innovative educator with a tireless work ethic who is collaborative in all that she undertakes.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bank on her appointment and thanking Dr. Bhanji for the work he has done.
