MONTREAL - Myriam Donato of Pointe Claire, Que., and Kelsey Irwin of Vancouver, B.C., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 21, 2010.

Donato, a sophomore on the Martlets swim team, was McGill's top performer at the AUS meet in Halifax over the weekend. The 21-year-old anatomy and cell biology major won two gold medals (200m IM, 2:20.97; 400m IM) and a pair of silvers (100 breaststroke and 200 butterfly). More importantly, she qualified for the CIS championships in five events, including the 50 and 100 breaststrokes, the 200 and 400 IM events and the 200 butterfly, where she also qualified for senior nationals for the first time. Donato is a product of John Abbott College.

Irwin, a six-foot middle-blocker on the volleyball Martlets, racked up a team-high 43 kills, 44 digs, 20 blocks and eight aces as McGill won three of four matches in an interlocking tournament against opponents from the Atlantic conference. The 22-year-old sociology senior accounted for 22 points in a 3-1 victory over fourth-place Moncton, 18 points in a 3-1 decision over last-place Memorial, 17 points in a 3-0 sweep over third-place Moncton and 14 points in a 3-0 loss to division-leading Saint Mary's. Irwin enrolled at McGill in 2006 out of Lord Byng secondary school in Vancouver.
