Professor Franco Carnevale, Principal Investigator VOICE (Views On Interdisciplinary Childhood Ethics, and team were recently awarded a Knowledge Synthesis Grant of $24, 821 by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada. This project is also funded by the Provost's office.

The June 2016 Competition Awards for the Knowledge Synthesis Grants are oriented around the question "How are the knowledge systems, experiences and aspirations of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples essential to building a successful shared future for all Canadians?" Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission also called for improvements in postsecondary education to better assist child-focused professionals in developing the knowledge, skills, attitudes and practices to work respectfully with Indigenous peoples. Thus this one year project on Advancing Indigenous pedagogy on childhood:  identifying priorities for professional education will (a) review the state of knowledge about child-focused professionals’ education and its impact on Indigenous children and (b) develop recommendations for curriculum reform in these professions.
