CHARLOTTETOWN - Three members of the McGill Martlets were honoured as all-Canadians during the CIS women's soccer awards gala in Charlottetown, Wednesday night.
Defender Katherine Green of Richmond Hill, Ont., was named to the first squad, while second-team selections included goalkeeper Victoria Muccilli, a native of Mississauga, Ont., and forward Alexandra Morin-Boucher of St-Gabriel-de-Brandon, Que. Including repeat winners, McGill has had 36 all-Canadians since they were implemented in 1987.
This marks the second time that Green has merited all-Canadian status. A 5-foot-11 defensive specialist, who struggled with injuries for most of the season, she earned conference all-star honours for the third straight year. The 20-year-old political science junior had no points in six games.
Muccilli, a 5-foot-9 'keeper who turns 18 this week, started in 11 of McGill's 14 matches and posted an unblemished 5-0-4 record with four shutouts. The science freshman registered a 0.67 goals-against average and an .860 save percentage, allowing just six goals on 43 shots.
Morin-Boucher, a 5-foot-6 striker, led the QUSL in goals and tied for second among CIS leaders with 11 in 14 games. The 21-year physical education junior finished fourth in the scoring race with 13 points and was selected four times by opposing coaches as McGill's player of the game.
Other CIS major award winners announced during the gala:
Fifth-year University of Montreal striker Véronique Laverdière was named the CIS player of the year. The Montreal native became the first-ever Carabin to claim the Chantal Navert memorial award as CIS MVP. Wilfrid Laurier sweeper Kelsey Tikka of Thunder Bay, Ont., was named rookie of the year; Memorial midfielder Samantha Hansford of St. John's received the Student-Athlete Community Service award and UPEI's Mike Redmond earned his second coach-of-the-year award, a prize presented by Coaches of Canada.
The 2010 CIS championship, hosted for the first time by the University of Prince Edward Island, gets under way Thursday and culminates with the national final Sunday at 1 p.m. Atlantic Time. All games from the tournament will be webcast by SSN Canada (www.ssncanada.ca or www.cis-sic.ca)

The all-Canadian teams had Montreal, Wilfrid Laurier, UPEI and Alberta each placing two representatives on the top squad. Alberta also earned a pair of second-team nods, while Laurier and UPEI received one apiece.
Joining Green and Laverdière on the first CIS unit were conference MVPs Roche, Tessier and Wallin; UPEI goalkeeper Chanelle Roy of Bathurst, N.B., as well as Dalhousie's Jeanette Huck of Halifax on defence; Laurier teammates Tania Pedron of Maple, Ont., and Alyssa Lagonia of Kitchener, Ont., and Montreal's Éva Thouvenot-Hébert of Montreal at midfield; along with Alberta striker Heather Lund of Red Deer, Alta.
Roche is the only returnee from last year's first team. Green was a member of the second CIS unit last season, while Huck was a second-teamer in 2008.
Joining Muccilli and Morin-Boucher on the second squad was Alberta's Shalla Kadima of Edmonton and UPEI's Sara Stewart of Charlottetown in the backfield; Dalhousie's Kate MacDonald of Elmsdale, N.S., Alberta's Carleigh Miller of St. Albert, Alta., Sherbrooke's Andréanne Gagné of St-Hyacinthe, Que., Carleton's Amanda Ngwafusi of Ottawa and Trinity Western's Natalie Boyd of Surrey, B.C., at midfield; as well as Queen's Kelli Chamberlain of North Bay, Ont., and Laurier's Ali McKee of Bracebridge, Ont..
