McGill University has mandated Corenov Constructeurs to carry out the following project: Macdonald Stewart Building (Macdonald Campus) / 20-021 JELF Roy.

The project consists of the renovation of lab MS2-094A on the second floor of the Macdonald Stewart Building.

Project manager: Mark Ouimet – mark.ouimet [at]

Assistant project manager: Claudia Carpanzano - Claudia.carpanzano [at]

Construction start date: September 25, 2023

Planned construction end date: February 15, 2024

Work schedule: Mondays to Fridays, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Scope of work:

The project consists of renovating room MS2-094A. The work will include the replacement of lab furniture, the modification of the ceiling to allow for new light fixtures, electromechanical work, and the relocation of the fume hood.

Demolition work under medium-risk asbestos conditions is planned until mid-October 2023. As part of the renovation, floor tiles and built-in lab furniture will be removed from the space. Since the floor tiles and the bench tops contain asbestos, this work will be carried out under asbestos safety protocols. This phase of the work is expected to be completed by mid-October. The safety protocols include a variety of measures aimed at protecting both the workers and the occupants of the building. They include sealing off the construction site from the rest of the building, the use of specialized vacuuming equipment and personal protective equipment by the workers, cleaning, and daily inspections by an industrial hygiene professional.

Work will be required in certain adjacent rooms which may be occupied. The users of these rooms will be contacted for more detailed coordination ahead of time.

Service shutdowns will be required. Users will be informed in advance.

During construction, access to the ceiling will be required in certain rooms outside the construction zone, for the installation or modification of electromechanical services. Such construction work will be coordinated in advance with the building director and the users. Work will be required in the following spaces:

  • MS1-111/112 (Research Lab)
  • MS2-094/095 (Student Lounge)
  • MS2-094C (Research Lab)
  • MS2-096 (Research Lab)
